CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT and SPIRITUAL GROWTH are central to everything we do.

The successes and failures in the game of baseball mirror the ups and downs of life. The baseball diamond is like the crucible of life. It can be both unmercifully unforgiving and deliver moments of raw, unmitigated joy. And that’s the brilliance and opportunity afforded to those who play the game.

Baseball uniquely allows players to routinely face struggles—overcoming rampant failure is at the core of the game. A professional hitter who fails 70 percent of the time is considered among the best to ever play the game. A fielder can play flawless defense and make one misstep—unforgivingly heralded as an “error”—at the wrong time, and the game can be lost for the whole team despite everything else that went right. How many times have we heard a pitcher lament that he lost the game for his team because he gave up a walk-off home run off a “mistake pitch”?

On the other end of the spectrum, the exhilaration experienced with success, both as a team and individually, is intoxicating. Overcoming low odds in the face of adversity to beat a team that, at least on paper, is clearly better can change the course of a team's season. Hitting a walk-off, game-winning home run off a “light’s out” pitcher with the game on the line, striking out the other team’s best hitter with the potential winning run on third base to end the game, or making a diving play to save the game—these are the plays young boys replay in their minds as grown men decades later (just ask us!).

In a sense, baseball is a metaphor for life. We relate to it naturally. We get lost in its moments. It can shape us. However, in the end, it is still a game. Life is not. At Impact Baseball we believe the game of baseball can be a platform for shaping not just the memories but, more importantly, the lives of young men.

The Bible shows us what character and spiritual maturity look like in the person of Jesus Christ. We believe that having a relationship with Him is vital to the type of character development and spiritual growth we emphasize as a program.

Our goal is to share the transforming love of Christ with the young men of Impact Baseball, their families, the teams we play against, the umpires who ump our games, and our communities.

For each of the boys who dons an Impact jersey will come a last game. We all experience it. But our character and integrity—who we really are—are not like cleats that get hung up. We wear them forever, and they are infinitely more important. So we not only work hard to create a program where your sons can develop into the very best baseball players they are capable of becoming but also seek to train them in life and faith through practicing excellence on the field, serving others, and glorifying Jesus Christ in all things.
